The Fredericton SPCA is a registered charity and not-for-profit organization that has existed in this region for more than 98 years.
In February 1914, a meeting held in the Fredericton City Council Chambers to establish this organization. The meeting was overseen by the mayor of the day, Mr. W.S. Hooper.
This SPCA branch society built its first animal shelter on Montgomery Street in November of 1974. During that first year, the shelter received 600 animals. By 1977, the number of animals taken in was up to 900 and that figure skyrocketed to 1,655 in 1989. In 2009 the Fredericton SPCA received 1,200 animals.

The Fredericton SPCA positively impacts animal welfare by:
◾Advocating and promoting humane, responsible, animal guardianship; and
◾Providing temporary shelter, care and adoption opportunities for animals in need
