Purple Pinkies for Polio Campaign is a project to raise awareness of polio in overseas countries such as Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan and to help end this crippling disease.
Once rampant throughout New Brunswick sixty years ago, polio affects young children by paralyzing their leg muscles so they can’t walk. The world is polio-free thanks to vaccines, but Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria are countries where the disease still exists. It costs just $2.00 to vaccinate and protect one child.
In these countries, vaccinated children have their pinkie finger marked with a purple dye to indicate they have received protection. vaccinate and protect one child.
